Kaizer Chiefs have made six additions to their squad, although one of those deals is a loan move with a permanent option.
Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, have been far more active, completing 12 signings as they continue to reshape their squad.
HOW KAIZER CHIEFS HAVE RECRUITED
Kaizer Chiefs have focused on adding experience while also bringing in younger players with room to develop.
Khanyisa Mayo, 27, has joined from CR Belouizdad in Algeria after his loan deal was made permanent. He gives Kaizer Chiefs another option at both right wing and centre-forward.
THREE PLAYERS FROM STELLEBOSCH FC
The club also signed Thabo Moloisane, 27, from Stellenbosch FC, while goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, 28, arrived from Sekhukhune United.
Kaizer Chiefs have also invested in younger players.
Langelihle Phili, 21, and Faiz Abrahams, 21, both arrived from Stellenbosch FC, with Abrahams joining on loan with a permanent option.
The final addition is Adolf Bitegeko, 27, who joined from Azam FC in Tanzania to compete in defensive midfield.
ORLANDO PIRATES GO BIGGER
The Buccaneers have taken a different approach, with 12 players joining the club.
Their recruitment has included several young South African players.
Sbangani Zul, 23, arrived from Richards Bay, while Bohlale Ngwato, 20, Ghampani Lungu, 27, and Neo Rapoo, 20, all joined from Siwelele FC.
The Buccaneers also signed Bheki Mabuza, 23, from Marumo Gallants, Matome Mmolai, 22, from Leicesterford City, and Thapelo Mokobodi, 23, from Stellenbosch FC.
Mthetheleli Mthiyane, 25, and Thapelo Mokobodi, 23, strengthen the midfield, while Aphiwe Baliti, 24, has been retained on loan for the season from Siwelele.
TWO SIGNINGS FROM ABROAD
Orlando Pirates have also looked outside South Africa. Sebastian Pedersen, 27, arrived from Sogndal in Norway, while Mohau Nkota, 21, joined from Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia on loan.
Kabelo Kgositsile, 21, completes the list after joining from Baroka FC.
The numbers tell the clearest story. Kaizer Chiefs have made six additions, while Orlando Pirates have brought in 12 players.
That gives the Buccaneers twice as many new signings, although both clubs have targeted a mixture of experienced players and younger talent.
The big question now is which approach will work best once the new season gets underway.
