2-0 win: Orlando Pirates send message to Mamelodi Sundowns

The match was a physical affair. Durban City picked up several yellow cards in the first half. Orlando Pirates continued to push forward after the break and eventually found the breakthrough in the 57th minute.

Defender Lebone Seema rose highest to head the ball into the net after sustained pressure from the hosts, giving the Buccaneers the lead.

TSHEPANG MOREMI BAGS THE GAME FOR ORLANDO PIRATES

Orlando Pirates doubled their advantage in the 69th minute through Tshepang Moremi. The attacker, who missed Bafana Bafana selection due to his recent injury, combined well with Kabelo Kgositsile before calmly finishing.

Durban City introduced late substitutes, including Tashreeq Morris, as they searched for a way back into the match. However, Orlando Pirates defence stood firm to secure all three points and extend their impressive league run.

PRESSURE ON MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

This important victory moved Orlando Pirates closer to league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The Buccaneers now have 16 points from their opening six matches, while Sundowns remain top with 20 points after eight games.

The Sea Robbers have also maintained their unbeaten start to the domestic campaign and have two games in hand over Sundowns. The result keeps the title race tightly contested, with Orlando Pirates well placed to close the gap when they play their outstanding fixtures.

Orlando Pirates and Durban City FC will both return to Betway Premiership action on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

The Bucanners will travel to Royal Bafokeng Stadium to face Marumo Gallants at 15:00. At the same time, Durban City FC will be on the road against Milford FC at Richards Bay Stadium.
