For three decades, Hisense has built a familiar presence in South African homes through televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and other everyday appliances. Now, the brand is turning its attention to a different part of daily life: the morning coffee ritual.
The Hisense HSACM20LPO semi-automatic espresso machine brings together fresh grinding, temperature control, milk steaming and digital operation in one appliance, giving home users more control over their coffee without requiring a counter full of specialist equipment.
At the heart of the machine is an integrated grinder with 20 grind settings, allowing users to adjust the grind according to the beans, roast and preferred style of coffee. A 260g bean hopper means whole beans can go directly from grinder to espresso, helping make freshly ground coffee part of the everyday routine.
Temperature is another important part of espresso preparation. The HSACM20LPO uses PID temperature control, with selectable brewing temperatures of 92°C, 94°C and 96°C, helping users achieve more consistent results from one cup to the next. Pre-infusion is also included to help wet the coffee grounds before full extraction begins.
But Hisense has also focused on making the experience approachable.
An integrated full-colour touchscreen brings the key functions together in one interface, including single espresso, double espresso, Americano, hot water, steam and cleaning. Users can also adjust settings such as coffee volume, grind time and brewing temperature.
For households where cappuccinos, flat whites and lattes are part of the routine, the machine uses a dual-heating system, allowing coffee brewing and milk frothing to take place at the same time. A barista-style steam wand keeps milk preparation hands-on, giving users the freedom to experiment with texture and create their preferred finish.
The machine also uses a 58mm stainless-steel portafilter and comes with single- and double-cup filters, a calibrated tamper and a 350ml milk jug. A generous 2.8-litre removable water tank helps reduce frequent refilling during regular household use.
The result is a machine aimed at consumers who want more involvement than a capsule or one-touch system provides, while still wanting technology to simplify some of the more technical parts of espresso preparation.
For Hisense, the launch also reflects a broader evolution of the brand. Its 30th anniversary in South Africa is not only about looking back at three decades in the market; it is also about finding new ways to become part of consumers’ everyday lives.
Hisense already has a place in the living room and kitchen. With the HSACM20LPO, it is now making a case for a place in the morning routine too.
The HSACM20LPO can be purchased at Hirsch’s Home Appliances stores, nationwide.
