DURBAN CITY CONFIRM ERIC TINKLER APPOINTMENT
The new coach offers no shortage of Betway Premiership experience. He has been in charge of Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Sekhukhune United.
“Durban City FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Tinkler as the Club’s new Head Coach,” the club said. The new head coach revealed that the club’s ambition played a major role in his decision to take the job.
“I’m excited to be part of what is being built here at Durban City FC,” Tinkler said. “The club is very ambitious, they have made positive strides in a short space of time, competing in the CAF Confederation Cup already, and that made my decision easy.”
Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia also welcomed Tinkler, highlighting his experience in South African football.
“Eric brings a wealth of experience in South African football and understands what is required at this level. We believe he is the right person to lead the team and help us achieve what we have set out to achieve this season,” Kadodia said.
Tinkler already has a relationship with Kadodia from his time at Maritzburg United. He guided the club to the 2019 Telkom Knockout Cup final.
“The chairman is someone I’ve worked with before. When the opportunity presented itself to come back, I grabbed it with both hands,” Tinkler said.
DEBUT AGAINST AMAZULU FC
Durban City FC have had uninspired start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season. The club currently sitting 10th on seven points from seven matches.
Their league record includes one win, four draws and two defeats. Defensive organisation proved to be one of their strengths while their lack of efficiency in front of goal has cost them points.
One of their standout results came away against Kruger United. Goals from Gaston Sirino and Jean Lwamba secured a 2-0 victory.
Durban City have also had to balance their domestic campaign with their CAF Confederation Cup commitments, successfully progressing after eliminating Rukinzo.
