A fleet of luxury vehicles, from Rolls-Royces to high-end Mercedes-Benz models, has lined up at the Chivayo family funeral in Harare, highlighting the lavish lifestyle associated with the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
Among those seen at the family gathering was businessman Joachim “G6” Chivayo.
G6 reportedly arrived in a blue Rolls-Royce Cullinan with a personalised number plate, while another family members was also seen arriving in a white Rolls-Royce.
The luxury vehicles quickly became a talking point on social media, where images and videos of the high-end cars circulated alongside coverage of the funeral proceedings.
Chivayo funeral draws luxury cars
The appearance of the Rolls-Royces comes as the Chivayo family prepares to lay businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke, to rest.
A procession through Harare on Wednesday also featured several high-end vehicles, including Rolls-Royces and Mercedes-Benz cars, as the couple’s remains were taken from Doves Funeral Services to the family home in Gletwin.
The convoy attracted large crowds, with people lining the streets and using their phones to record the procession.
The display of luxury vehicles has been seen as a reflection of the extravagant lifestyle associated with the late businessman, who was well known for his collection of expensive cars.
G6 and Pharaoh’s South African link
The appearance of G6 and Pharaoh has also renewed attention on a legal case in South Africa involving the pair.
According to IOL, South Africa’s Hawks declared Joachim “G6” Chivayo and Ayanda Brian Gungwa wanted after they allegedly failed to appear in court in connection with a case involving gold bars valued at about R15 million.
The report said the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court issued J50 warrants for their arrest in March 2025 after they allegedly failed to appear.
The case relates to the alleged possession of six bars of unwrought gold during a Hawks investigation in Brakpan.
Importantly, the legal matter remains separate from the funeral proceedings, and the allegations have not been established as guilt in court. IOL also reported that Wicknell Chivayo was not implicated in that case.
Luxury becomes a talking point
While the funeral remained focused on mourning and family, the arrival of the luxury vehicles provided another major talking point online.
The Rolls-Royces, personalised number plates and convoy of high-end cars highlighted the wealth surrounding the Chivayo family at a time when Zimbabweans were gathering to bid farewell to one of the country’s most prominent businessmen.
The images have since generated widespread discussion on social media, with many users focusing on the contrast between the sombre occasion and the conspicuous display of luxury.
