LEON SCHUSTER: ‘I’M SURE I’LL GO TO HEAVEN’

In a clip from his interview on online radio station Play ZN, Leon Schuster was asked about his thoughts on death and the afterlife.

Leon revealed that he had grown up in a conservative religious family and was taught to have a strong Christian faith.

Despite this, the 75-year-old joked about overindulging in alcohol and other “sins” during his film career.

He shared: “I’m on my knees every day thanking the Lord that I made it to 75. I only want to make it to 80 like Dolly Parton. I’m not scared to die. I’m sure I’ll go to heaven”

HEALTH WOES IN RECENT YEARS

In recent years, Leon Schuster has shared his health struggles with the public.

The actor and comedian injured himself in 2023 while filming Mr Bones 3, which was released a year later.

Since then, he has undergone extensive surgery and rehabilitation.

Leon – who shared that his chronic back pain had affected his mobility and left him reliant on pain medication – has also spoken about suffering from depression and loneliness.

In the 2025 KykNET docuseries Schuster, he said: “I don’t want to be alone anymore. I hope to meet a young thing in her 40s. I just hope she’ll understand my health problems, and has empathy and sympathy for them.”

The comedian revealed his “biggest fear” was “growing old alone”.

He said, “On Sunday evenings when the sun goes down, I get depressed. This is why I try as much as possible to have my kids visit me on a Sunday, having a braai that continues until I go to bed.

“You look for company, you don’t want to be alone. If no one visits me, I sit on my stoep and think about life, which is not a good thing. One should be busy.”
