Union have now made a firm statement of intent in the UEFA Europa League after an impressive start to the league phase. The Belgian champions are placed in sixth position. They lead the likes of Juventus and AC Milan.

The 4-0 victory over Hapoel Be’er Sheva has boosted the push for automatic qualification to the last 16.

Union SG had also shown their resilience by holding Real Sociedad to a 1-1 draw. Those results have given the Brussels-based club a strong platform to challenge for a place among the top eight and avoid the knockout play-off round.

With their next Europa League fixture against Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo scheduled for 5 November, Union SG will look to maintain their momentum and strengthen their position in the standings.

Coming up next is a meet up with Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Pro League. Mofokeng will be facing his compatriot Luke Le Roux in Cercle’s midfield.

The game is set for Sunday 25 October at 20:00 at the Stade Joseph Marien.
