Mbekezeli Mbokazi returns to Chicago Fire training grounds

Bafana Bafana centre-back Mbekezeli Mbokazi is back at the Chicago Fire training grounds after weeks on the sidelines.

Mbokazi had been out injured following his return from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he was set to miss in action for the rest of the year.

He had suffered a left thigh tear, and had to fly to Finland for surgery but there are some good news on him.

His coach Gregg Berhalter later retracted his statement, admitting he may have jumped the gun by ruling him out for 2026.

Now, on Friday, Chicago Fire revealed that Mbokazi is actually back alongside some of his teammates who were also injured.

This news come at a time when Puso Dithejane is on song for Chicago Fire, and the two are expected to carry the team this season.

With seven games to go, Chicago Fire are third on the Eastern Conference log with 37 points, five behind Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami who have played a game more.

Mbokazi‘s return is also a huge boost for Bafana Bafana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
