Lynn Forbes, the mother of slain rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, popularly known as AKA, flew down to Durban to attend his murder trial on Monday 5 October.
LYNN FORBES TESTIFIES AT AKA MURDER TRIAL
All seven suspects accused of killing rapper AKA and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane pleaded not guilty at the Durban Magistrate Court on Monday 5 October. The accused face a whole host of charges including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder and firearms and ammunition offences.
The trial was due to begin at 9am. However, their appearance before the court on Monday was delayed. Two of the accused had not arrived in court by the time proceedings were due to begin. Lynn Forbes, the mother of AKA, attended the trial. She sat alongside Tibz’s father, Sylvester Motsoane, when the trial opened.
Lynn revealed that she flew in and out of Durban on the same day via an Instagram post she posted from the plane. She also thought of her son in those moments. Take a look…
“I hope you’re dancing in the sky. I hope you’re singing in the angel’s choir. 🤍 Flying to and from Durban yesterday 🎥,” she wrote.

LYNN FORBES ON NOT WANTING TO ATTEND THE MURDER TRIAL
Lynn previously revealed that she has no desire to visit Durban, the city where her son was murdered.
“I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment. What I do have a desire for, and it’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much, it will be just so much. So it’s not Durban as a place, it’s not Durban as people, I think Kiernan loved Durban, his fan base is there, and the Megacy is alive in Durban,” she said in an interview on East Coast Radio in May 2023.
While AKA’s dad, Tony Forbes expressed that he will attend the trial as part of closure.
“It is an important event for me to go to as part of closure and you know that trauma is still there,” he said to ENCA in a clip shared on social media.
Lynn also previously opened up about grief and loss.
“I have never felt pain like that ever in my life before. I still feel that pain. I wake up every morning and it is just a confirmation that I will never hear his voice again,” she said.
“I don’t need to know who shot him to have closure. That is not information that’s going to change my situation. I’m still going to wake up and he won’t be there,” she said.
