SEPTEMBER 2026 SASSA CHILD SUPPORT GRANTS
Encouragingly, the gap between payments represents a normal 28-day cycle and not the 33 days it did previously. As ever, the grant amounts for September 2026 SASSA Child Support Grants – and all other Childcare Grants – remain unchanged:
Therefore, assuming you register your child with Home Affairs from the month of their birth, you can start claiming immediately. Calculated all the way to their 18th birthday, this is a benefit of roughly R185 000 (adjusted for inflation) to the parents.
INCOME ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Likewise, applicants should consider the amended income eligibility requirements from the South African Social Security Agency. Previously, a single caregiver on Child Support could earn R5 100 per month and still qualify. Now that limit has increased to R5 800. While, for married couples looking after a minor, the figure increases from R10 200 to R11 600 per month.
Tallied up annually, that is R69 600 (single person) and R139 200 (couple). Note that there is no asset portion to the means test, like with SASSA Old-Age Grants in September 2026. On a positive note, the agency also claims new maximum wait times of 90 minutes at SASSA offices, but our reader feedback suggests otherwise.
New SASSA minister Dina Pule says self-service kiosks with Wi-Fi allows clients to complete eLife and biometric verification for free. The agency also says it is tackling the scourge of criminal syndicates and vigilantes that are extorting vulnerable beneficiaries waiting in SASSA queues, too.
SAME-DAY SERVICE FOR SASSA CHILD SUPPORT
Better still, September 2026 SASSA Child Support Grants can be processed and approved same-day. Previously, the waiting period was closer to three months. However, if you have all your documents in order on your first visit, you could walk away with an approved grant right there and then. Here’s what you need to bring to your application appointment:

Beyond September 2026 SASSA Child Support Grants, the next thing to look forward to is the prospect of mid-cycle increases in October 2026. Although these figures are still to be confirmed by the National Treasury, and often exclude Child Support.
