Driving the roughly 600km round trip (from Durban) will set you back between R1 500 and R2 000 in petrol and tolls, while flights for four can easily exceed R6 000 to R8 000.
Once in Johannesburg, local transport to the stadium is relatively affordable, with park-and-ride shuttles or other options costing around R50 to R100 per person.
ADDITIONAL COSTS TO CONSIDER
Food and drinks at the stadium are also worth budgeting for.
Snacks and beverages average about R150 per person, so a family of four should expect to spend R600 to R1 000 during the match.
If the family chooses to enjoy a sit-down meal after the game in nearby areas such as Maboneng or Melville, the cost rises to R1 000 to R1 500.
Merchandise is another optional extra but popular expense. Official Springbok jerseys cost around R900 each, so buying jerseys for the children adds R1 800, while a full family set totals R3 600.
Altogether, the outing can vary widely depending on choices.
A budget-conscious family driving to Johannesburg, sitting in the cheapest available seats, and sticking to stadium snacks will spend around R8 700.
A mid-range option with mid-tier tickets, driving, enjoying meals, and buying two jerseys comes to about R12 300.
