Kaizer Chiefs starlet nets as SA U23 wallop Algeria in friendly

Kaizer Chiefs starlet Faiz Abrahams was on the scoresheet as the South African U23 team walloped Algeria 3-1 in an international friendly on Thursday.

The match was played at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in the Free State province as part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt in November.

KAIZER CHIEFS STARLET ABRAHAMS SCORES FOR SA U23 TEAM

Raymond Mdaka’s men found themselves on the back foot as Algeria opened the scoring in the first half.

However, the hosts came back stronger in the second half, especially after a double substitution by Mdaka.

Kutlwano Letlhaku and Siviwe Magidigidi made way for Nhlanhla Gasa and Quwan Plaatjies respectively.

And the duo made immediate impact with Plaatjies netting the equaliser in the 49th minute, and it was soon 2-1 as Gasa gave the SA U23 the lead.

Mdaka later introduced Abrahams, and the Kaizer Chiefs attacker scored his team’s third to seal a come-from-behind victory for Mdaka’s charges.

Abrahams will hope for a start when the two nations meet again on Sunday, 4 October at the same venue.

Abrahams is on a season-long loan deal with Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC, and given how he has performed so far, they may consider making his stay permanent.
