SASSA announces SRD payment dates for August 2026

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the payment schedule for the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for August 2026, confirming that beneficiaries will receive their funds between 24 and 26 August 2026.

SASSA shared the dates through its official channels, urging beneficiaries to take note of the payment window and avoid unnecessary visits to offices or calls to the Call Centre for information that is already available.

New WhatsApp Self-Service Channel Launched

In addition to confirming the payment dates, SASSA announced a new WhatsApp self-service channel designed specifically for COVID-19 SRD beneficiaries. The agency explained that the automated platform will allow grant recipients to access key information about their applications and payments without needing to travel to a SASSA office or wait on hold with the Call Centre.

Additionally, the service forms part of SASSA’s ongoing efforts to modernise how beneficiaries interact with the agency, reducing congestion at offices and easing pressure on call centre lines that have historically struggled to cope with high volumes of enquiries from grant recipients across the country.

Beneficiaries wishing to use the new service can reach it via WhatsApp on 082 601 0111, where the automated system will guide them through the available options.

What Beneficiaries Need to Know

SASSA has reiterated that the WhatsApp channel is fully automated, meaning beneficiaries will not be speaking to a live agent but will instead navigate a self-service menu to retrieve information relevant to their SRD grant status. This is intended to give beneficiaries faster access to updates on applications, payment status, and other account-related queries.

The agency’s messaging around the announcement carried its familiar tagline, reaffirming its commitment to “paying the right social grant, to the right person, at the right time and place.”
