South Africans looking to replace their green ID books with Smart ID cards now have hundreds of bank branches to choose from.
The Department of Home Affairs has expanded its use of banks as alternative service points, allowing eligible applicants to access Smart ID services at participating branches.
Home Affairs has also introduced an online partner-branch locator, allowing people to search for participating Smart ID bank branches rather than having to check individual bank websites or contact branches themselves.
The branch list supplied by Home Affairs contains 502 branches across four banking groups: Standard Bank, Capitec, FNB and Absa, and is updated as more bank branches are added to the Smart ID rollout.
