Transfer report: Orlando Pirates linked with Brazilian striker

Orlando Pirates are reportedly interested in Brazilian striker Alvaro de Oliveira as they look for a proven goalscorer.

Oliveira is a free agent after parting ways with Al Bataeh Club in the United Arab Emirates.

According to Soccer Laduma, tthe Buccaneers are one of the PSL teams which have inquired about his services.

“Pirates are one of the clubs that were approached, but there was no formal approach made to the club. It was more through people and scouts close to or working with the club to try and see if there could be interest and whether it could then be taken further to the higher management,” the source told the publication.

Orlando Pirates recently signed Nowergian striker Sebastian Pedersen even though he is yet to make an appearance for the Buccaneers. Soccer Laduma added that the Brazilian could be signed now that the club already brought in an overseas based player.

“The South African representatives and their counterparts overseas were motivated by the fact that Pirates recently signed Sebastian Pedersen. They felt that if Pirates were looking at that type of profile, they could also be interested in a player of Alvaro’s calibre,” the source added.

Orlando Pirates to add another striker to their squad

With Evidence Makgopa injured and Yanela Mbuthuma misfiring, the club are looking elsewhere for goals. The Buccaneers are in five different cup competitions and need quality upfront if they are to win more silverware this season.
